Two fairly recent AWS offerings have surfaced that we should experiment with:
M6g instances are Amazon’s new ARM based general compute instances. An m6g.large instance is comparable to our current preference of m5.large instance in terms of vCPU and memory, at about a 20% savings in us-east-1. The trick of course is that we’ve never tried running under ARM architecture.
S. Africa region opened up which might provide better service to our customers, including lower network latency. The downside is that our current preference of M5.large instances are about 25% more expensive in af-south-1 than us-east-1. And no option for M6g instances, yet.
If anyone has interest in exploring these two offerings with me, let me know.
