Re-architecture acceleration brief & Gates meeting feedback

The OpenLMIS core team met with the BMGF team on Monday , May 10 regarding the proposal. Overall the meeting went very well and they are supportive of the re-architecture plan. They seemed inclined to find support for the additional vaccine functionality, further 3.x releases, and community support through mid-2018 (an extension on the original grant), but they want to have a better sense of what the full ask of support and sustainment model will be for OpenLMIS through 2020.

Gates feels that having a picture now of what the asks will be through 2020 (as OpenLMIS spins out on its own) will be important to garnering the support they need. They are going to discuss internally and follow up on any additional questions they have, as well as what additional information they need in order to start moving through their internal funding processes.

We will address the meeting feedback during the upcoming Governance committee meeting on Tuesday, May 17. All are welcome to join the call and participate in the discussion. Details for the meeting are below:

Meeting date: Tuesday, May 17

Hello all,

I will plan to join from the foundation side. Will the main focus be around the BMGF discussion of the proposal or are other topics available realizing that it is only 1 hour. I am happy to try to respond to questions that arise during governance to answer the foundation questions and perspectives.

Hi all -

I wanted to send an update that the OpenLMIS re-architecture acceleration brief is on the wiki, posted here:

https://openlmis.atlassian.net/wiki/display/OP/OpenLMIS+Re-Architecture+Acceleration+Brief

This brief was presented to Gates to detail the re-architecture roadmap, and as the overall proposal to fund additional asks beyond the initial 3.0 version release. The 3.0 releases will be delivered using existing funding, however each section in the proposal was developed and budgeted as a separate “project.”

The proposal is outlined in four primary sections or projects, and a timeline and general budget are detailed for each in the brief.

  1. Outline of Re-Architecture Acceleration
  1. The OpenLMIS 3.x Roadmap
  1. OpenLMIS Reference Application
  1. OpenLMIS Vaccines Functionality
