Version # visibility

Hi everyone,

We’re working on
OLMIS-60
to add a version number string to OpenLMIS and display it somewhere in the UI. The goal is to make it easy to identify the version/build of the install. We’re looking for ideas on how to access this in the UI.

Many apps have a sort of Help-About link. Default OpenLMIS doesn’t have this, so we’re thinking of an additional link by the Profile|Logout section – clicking the link opens a separate page or dialog showing the version info. Another idea is to show the version info string on the login page. Both of these options work regardless of the user’s permissions, which might otherwise be a problem if we added another menu item. One downside to the Profile|Logout section is it gobbles valuable space. Any other pros, cons or ideas?

Thanks - Rich

Hi Rich,

Thanks for bringing this to our committees. I agree with showing the version number on the log-in page for both the real estate and permissions reasons you outlined. I can think of several applications built this way.

Cheers,
